The Omega 1938 Aviator Reissue Watch Ref. 5700.50.07
The 1938 Omega Aviator Reedition from the Museum Collection is one stunning and unique watch.
The one thing that never ceases to amaze me is the plethora of amazing watches that I come across that I had no idea they existed.
Omega holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first watch brand I was introduced to when my mother bought my father an Omega in 1977 - even though I protested with her to buy him a digital watch - ah, how silly of me if I only knew then what I know now!
Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, one such watch that I knew absolutely nothing about was this 1938 Aviator Reedition from the Omega Museum Collection.
This stunning limited edition vintage piece comes in a 40mm stainless steel case and is adorned with a beautiful brown leather strap. The matte-black dial with luminous Arabic hours and hands sits under a sapphire crystal that you would swear isn’t even there. Under the hood sits the caliber 2200, Omega’s self-winding automatic movement.
I absolutely love this watch, but being an Omega-branded timepiece and a limited edition to boot, I know I would have a tough time finding one, let alone affording it. Just look at the packaging (see below pic) this Aviator comes in, that amazing display box, Omega certificate / paper work and a leather knee strap, which I assume pilots from that era used so they wouldn’t have to tilt their arm to check the time while flying their plane.
Ah, I can only dream of having such a stunning piece in my modest watch collection.
